SUKKUR: The administration of the irrigation department has issued a schedule for the annual closure of off-taking right and left bank canals of the Sukkur barrage for their repair and maintenance as well as greasing and oiling of the canals gates.

The North West canal, Dadu canal, Khairpur Feeder East canal, Khairpur Feeder West canal, Rohri Main canal, Nara canal and its allied canals would remain closed from Jan 6 to Jan 20. There would be no flow of water in the canals.

After the announcement, the administration of the North Sindh Urban Services Corporation (NSUSC) has advised citizens to store water keeping in view of limited water supply from the water works and to use water carefully to avoid problems during the days of the annual maintenance and repair of the canals.

The NSUSC authorities have launched a campaign for the recovery of outstanding water dues from consumers. In this regard over 100 water connections were disconnected in Waspur Muhalla, old Sukkur. Many consumers have got restored their water supply after paying water charges.
