TIMERGARA: Students of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on Tuesday complained about not getting books and roll number slips dispatched by the varsity as the material lies dumped in the open outside the Timergara post office.

Talking to journalists here they alleged the post office staff had not been taking care of their books.

Nawab Badshah told Dawn he found a heap of AIOU books and other stationary scattered all around the post office while it was raining.

The students said no one was taking the responsibility to deliver the books to them. “Precious time of students is being wasted due to inefficiency and non-seriousness of the AIOU and its contractor tasked with delivering books to students,” a student alleged, saying the high ups should take notice of the matter.

When contacted, postmaster Syed Qamar told this reporter a contractor from Charsadda district had been assigned the responsibility to deliver books to students. He said the contractor had been bringing books and dumping them in front of the post office. He said the varsity administration had been informed of the issue.

SHOPKEEPERS FINED: District food controller Fazal Bari on Tuesday fined 20 shopkeepers during a surprise visit to different markets in Munda tehsil and issued notices to dozen others for not observing cleanliness and selling substandard items.

The food controller asked the shopkeepers to strictly follow the official pricelist and observe cleanliness. He said venders and shopkeepers selling substandard items won’t be spared.

Addressing inaugural ceremony of a private hospital here, he said the security forces in the region had been busy facilitating the government to provide quality education and health facilities to people.
