GUJRANWALA, Oct 31: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) on Friday regularized over 762 employees who had been working on contract basis for the last three years.
The performance of these employees, working in different cadres, was reviewed by Gepco chief executive Brig Saifullah Khalid and found their service records satisfactory.
Those who are confirmed are: 14 line superintendents-II, 215 meter readers, 274 assistant linemen, 254 bill distributors, one lineman first, two linemen-II, a line foreman-II and an office chowkidar in various sub-divisions and regional offices.
Meanwhile, the employees expressed their happiness and thanked the Gepco chief for issuing their confirmation orders.
SIALKOT JAIL CASE: The anti-terrorism court No 1 extended the deadline up to Nov 8 for submitting the case against the Sialkot jail incident accused on the appeal of investigating officer.
The complainants, however, expressed resentment over the delaying tactics of police and said they would file a private complaint against the accused if police failed to submit the case before the court on next date.
Counsel submitted that investigating officer DSP Younis Butt should be barred from leaving the country without the court permission as he has been selected for a United Nation peace mission abroad. The DSP, however, submitted his undertaking that he would not leave the country without court permission.
The investigating officer told the court that 40 of 45 objections raised by the district attorney regarding investigation report have been removed and the remaining would be removed within a few days.
ARRESTED: At least half a dozen revenue officials, including a naib tehsildar, were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Establishment in corruption cases here on Friday.
As per reports, naib tehsildar Muhammad Sharif and patwari Irshadullah involved in an alleged corruption case were found guilty in an initial inquiry. Later, two other patwaris — Zulfikar and Aslam were also arrested from the tehsil office by the ACE.
Similarly, two more patwaris — Abdul Rehman and Muhammad Arif of Naushera Virkan were also arrested on the charge of corruption by the ACE.
RETRIEVED: The bailiff of a local court conducted a raid on a bricks kiln in Tetley and retrieved a woman and her two sons from the custody of its owner and produced them before court on Friday.
Nawaz had moved court pleading that a brick kiln owner of the Tetley area kept his wife, Sakina, and sons, Asif and Hammad Raza, in illegal confinement. DSJ Riazul Hassan Alvi summoned the brick kiln owner on next hearing.
