LARKANA: Larkana Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Judge Riaz Rajput on Wednesday remanded Jeay Sindh Students Federation (JSSF) president Hafeez Pirzado in police custody for five days in different criminal and terrorism cases registered against him.

The suspect along with a another activist, Mohammed Nawaz Pirzado, was arrested in Balhreji village near Moenjodaro where a number of people had gathered to attend the death anniversary of Sarwich Pirzado, a leader of the proscribed Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM). The JSSF is the student wing of the Mahaz.

While Hafeez Pirzado was produced in the court of the fourth judicial magistrate in Larkana who also remanded him in police custody for five days, the whereabouts of Anwar Pirzado were not known till late on Wednesday night. Sources said both the suspects were picked up by personnel of the Karachi counter-terrorism department.

The suspects’ families and other relatives held a protest demonstration at SSP Chowk soon after the police action and kept the road blocked for some time. They raised slogans against police and demanded immediate release of the activists.

On Wednesday, two separate cases were registered against Hafeez Pirzado at the Fatehpur police station under Sections 324, 353, 402-1,148, 149 PPC and 6/7 ATA. Another FIR was registered against him under Section 24 of the Sindh Arms Act, police said.

His family members against took to the streets and held a demonstration outside the Larkana Press Club.
