MULTAN: A villager tried to commit self-immolation outside the Multan Press Club here on Wednesday in protest against police failure to arrest the suspects who allegedly raped his minor daughter.

Rafiq, a resident of Budhla Sant, arrived outside the press club at Chowk Nawa Shehr and dowsed himself in petrol he had brought along.

When he tried to set himself ablaze, some passersby with the help of police overpowered him.

Later, Rafiq told journalists that three men kidnapped his 13-year-old daughter and raped her.

He said that he had submitted an application to police stating the whole incident and pinpointing the suspects but no action was taken against them.

He said he wanted to end his life in protest against police apathy.
