KARACHI: An antiterrorism court on Tuesday sentenced two men, said to be gangsters, to a collective 31-year imprisonment in cases pertaining to attempted murder and keeping explosives and illicit weapons.

The court found Muhammad Umair and Muhammad Owais guilty of attacking a police team to avoid their arrest and carrying unlicensed weapons and explosives in October last year in Shershah.

Judge Abdullah Afzal Khan of the ATC-X handed down 14-year imprisonment each in the explosive material cases, 10 years in prison in attempted murder case and seven years in illicit weapons cases to the accused.

A fine of Rs20,000 was also imposed on each convict. The court ruled that all the sentences would run concurrently.

The prosecution said that the accused persons were associated with one of the several criminal gangs operating in Lyari.
