PESHAWAR: The devastating earthquake has caused Rs34 million worth of losses to the Pesco infrastructure in the province, according to an initial estimate.

A statement issued here on Friday said the damage included 98 distribution transformers of different categories, 201 HT/LT structures, 273 pen insulaters, 141 desk insulaters,147 steel cross arms, different type of conductors, 13 single phase meters and other instruments.

Similarly, boundary walls of 132KV Shahi Bagh grid station, Bannu grid station and 33KV Darosh-Chitral grid station had also developed cracks, while damage also occurred to 132KV Chakdara, Timergara, Khawazakhela, Shangla Paar and Wari grid stations.

It was stated that the earthquake emergency response force established on the directions of Pesco chief executive Syed Hassan Fazil had, with the collaboration of Pesco field staff, restored electricity in most of the affected areas.

The statement said that Pesco teams were able to move to the remote areas to replace transformers, poles and cables damaged by the earthquake. However, Pesco teams were facing problems in restoring electricity in the areas still inaccessible due to blockade of roads.

The Pesco chief has directed employees to extend full support to the district administrations and public in rehabilitation work in the earthquake hit areas.
