ISLAMABAD: Germany on Thursday committed to invest Rs11 billion on development projects in Pakistan this fiscal year.

During the bi-annual negotiations on development, both the countries signed an agreement for the cooperation.

The Pakistani delegation was headed by Economic Affairs Division Secretary Saleem Sethi while the German side was led by Deputy Development Minister Thomas Silberhorn.

The two German implementing agencies GIZ and KfW bank will use these funds to scale up existing projects in governance related to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), energy and health. On the occasion, Silberhorn said: “Our friendship allows us to discuss about success stories such as reforms in taxes and revenue generation, but also about remaining challenges such as the current situation of International Non-Governmental Organisations in Pakistan.”

The Pakistani delegation, during their visit, also met with representatives of the federal ministries and held meetings at the German Bundestag and the Bundesrat.
