QUETTA: Quetta and Naal area of Khuzdar district were jolted on Tuesday by moderate and mild intensity aftershocks of Monday’s massive earthquake.

The aftershock of 5.1 intensity hit the Naal area, some 80 km from Khuzdar, at 6.20pm, forcing the people to come out of their homes to open places.

Metrological Department officials confirmed the tremors which hit Naal and some areas of Khuzdar, and said that the epicentre of these tremors was located in Afghanistan.

An official of the local administration said that the tremors caused no damage to property or casualty in the two areas. However, cracks did appear in mud-houses in Naal area.

Naal is situated close to Mashkey area of the Awaran district, which had been badly hit by Sept 23 and 28, 2013, earthquakes, claiming hundreds of lives, destroying 20,000 houses and making hundreds of thousands of people homeless.

“Forty per cent houses have been constructed in the quake-stricken Awaran district till now and work on other houses’ construction was underway,” the project director of the house project told Dawn. The federal and provincial governments have provided Rs4 billion for the rehabilitation/reconstruction of homes of homeless people of Awaran district. The aftershocks were also felt in the provincial capital on Tuesday morning.
