CHITRAL: The chief executive officer of Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP), Shahzada Masoodul Mulk, has said that the acute shortage of power in the Chitral city and adjoining villages will be solved to a great extent with the completion of the two megawatt hydro power station being constructed in Golen area.

Talking to Malakand Division commissioner, Usman Gul, during a visit to the project’s site, he said the power station was financed by the European Union through the Economic Advancement and Community Empowerment (EACE) project which would cost Rs30 million.

He said under the EACE project, the hydle potential of the district was being exploited.

Malakand commissioner Usman Gul lauded the SRSP efforts in the power sector and said the Golen project was vital as it would feed the Chitral city, which is hit by power loadshedding.

Mr Mulk also visited different portions of the site including the power channel and fore-bay tank and expressed his satisfaction over the quality and speed of work. He was accompanied by adviser to the SRSP board, Ihsanullah Khan, and EACE project manager Engineer Zahid Khan.

HOSTEL FOR GIRLS INAUGURATED: A girls hostel of the Frontier Corps Public School and College, Chitral, was inaugurated by the Commandant of Chitral Scouts, Col Nizamul Din Shah, on Sunday. The hostel has been constructed by SRSP under its EACE project funded by the EU. 

Speaking on the occasion, he said the educational institution run by the Chitral Scouts was known for its quality education throughout the district and the construction of the hostel would encourage girl students from the far flung areas of Chitral to join the college.
