SUKKUR: More than 250 contestants of around 25 schools participated in the 11th Dawn in Education National Spelling Bee-2015 competition Sukkur round held at the auditorium of Sukkur Institute of Business Administration here on Tuesday.

The event was organised by the Dawn Media Group in partnership with the US embassy Islamabad.

Students, their parents, teachers and citizens of Suk­kur city and other districts, including Ghotki, Khairpur, Shikarpur and Jacobabad, attended the event.

The contestants were divided into three age groups — 9-11, 12-14 and 15-17 — and each group had two pools.

The audience cheered when­ever any contestant tried to outdo the other. Some of the participants with their quick answers surprised the audience. Ms Faryal Farooq was the judge while Raja Arshad Mirza was pronouncer and Sindh information department Sukkur Director Syed Asif Ali Shah was the chief guest.

FFC Higher Secondary School Mirpur Mathelo was declared winner in the age group of 9-11, Bahria Founda­tion College Ranipur in 12-14 and FFC Grammar School Mirpur Mathelo in the age group of 15-17.

The chief guest distributed certificates among the winners and appreciated their quick answers in the competition. He praised the Dawn Media Group for its efforts to promote education and the English language.
