KARACHI: Death row inmate Shahrukh Jatoi, convicted in the infamous Shahzeb Khan murder case, is enjoying lavish perks in Karachi's central jail, DawnNews reported on Friday.
During a programme titled “Exposed”, the anchor shared a video in which Jatoi appears to be making full use of a television, gaming console, air conditioner among other facilities in his death cell — a clear violation of jail rules and procedures.
When contacted to comment on the video, IG Prisons Sindh Nusrat Mangan said he cannot comment on the authenticity of the footage as he was not provided the video before it aired has not seen it.
Jatoi is reportedly enjoying B-category treatment at Karachi jail, despite not being entitled to it.
The IG Prisons said that he will look into the matter and take action against "any irregularities being committed by jail administration".

In the video it is shown that police personnel are deployed at the jail cell where Jatoi is incarcerated, however, the policemen are facilitating luxury treatment for Jatoi rather than keeping an eye on him.
Apex court can take suo motu
Former chief justice of Pakistan Justice (retd) Saeed uz Zaman Siddiqui, while talking to DawnNews said that according to the jail manual, an inmate on death row cannot be given A or B category facilities.
He went on to say that Supreme Court can take suo motu notice on the amenities reportedly provided to Shahrukh Jatoi.
Siddiqui further said that jail authorities don’t have the right to extend any sort of perks or facilities to the inmates.

Twenty-year-old Shahzeb Khan was gunned down on the night of December 24, 2012, when he was returning home along with his sister after attending a wedding.
Shahzeb, son of a DSP, was murdered reportedly after he had an altercation with one of the suspects’ servant who had allegedly given verbal threats to the victim’s sister.
Jatoi, Siraj Talpur, his younger brother Sajjad Talpur and their house servant Ghulam Murtaza Lashari were charged with killing Shahzeb in the city’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA).
The case had attracted much media attention after the Supreme Court took a suo motu notice of the murder.

This is bizarre, a killer enjoying all the perks, facilities of a 5 star hotel that too in a jail. Where is the Law and will Supreme Court take notice? Every individual involved must be given an examplery punishment of atleast 3-5 years behind bars and the main culprit involved must be given a sentence of 5-7 years behind bars. And the killer must be sent to gallows without any furthur delay. Justice delayed, justice denied.

How easily he crossed borders with the help of government officials and friends? How difficult it was to bring this criminal back to Pakistan to face justice? How difficult it was for the Shahzeb Khan Family to face threats? Are politicians above law? Is there any authority to take action against jail administration for treating a murderer like a prince? Is anyone going to dismiss few police high ups for deliberate violations of rules and regulations?
If we want to establish supremacy of law and restore confidence of common citizen in the system then all relevant authorities must act according to the law and deliver justice for the good of the society. This is a test case which can take our nation forward and change the mindset of influential ones, politicians or other wise.

We need to see the other side of the picture. Firstly shahrukh is in jail for over 3 years even after a signed compromise. I don't see anything in the footage which is luxurious except for the anchor saying it 100 times. Tv's are everywhere in the jail even in the whole C class. IG prisons has rightly said that there are birds and ducks etc in all prisons. Showing hens as luxury pet is ridiculous. Mountain dew cans were shown as beer. The anchor misquoted the law that B class is given by courts. In case of convicted prisoners like shahrukh, B class is given by home ministry which entitles him to a charpoi and chair. A fan, charpoi and chair is no luxury. No AC was shown in the video. In karachi jail there is a gym, computer lab, fine arts center, football and cricket grounds etc for all prisoners. Please tell me specifically where in the footage there is luxury. Also watch comments from IG that made the host speechless. Spending 3 years in jail without family and friends is no joke.

This also reminds me of the tragic incident which took place in Model town, Lahore, where police brutally took precios lives of 17 women including a pregnant woman whose child did not see the daylight because of this horrifying incident. The same heartless people on whose orders the killing was carried out are enjoying the highest offices in the province, the dead and families of the dead are still looking for justice. Lives of the people of Sindh and Punjab province means Nothing to PML-N Or PPP.

Isn't that how all the rich prisoners are treated in Pakistan? From what I understand, they are also allowed to leave the prison to attend to their personal matters, have home made food brought to them - basically living a normal life - except that on paper, they are serving their sentence. How do you think Zardari survived prison life for so many years?

I appreciate your balanced views without emotion. Unfortunately, we Pakistanis get carried away without looking at the whole situation.
After due and proper legal process this person must get the punishment he deserves without consideration of his status in the society. Law must be seen to be the same for all.
If the jail authorities are shown to have given undue facilities against the rules, then a disciplinary action should be taken against the culprits including prison / dismissal.

Our system is the responsible for all corrupt practices including this one. This is not the first case as what our former president had enjoyed in jail is an open secret. It was quite shocking that the IG prison showed his ignorance about whole episode and if a head of sindh prisons is unaware than it proves his incompetency & non-seriousness towards his job, needless to say that the IG prisons has no moral grounds to continue his job who as a head is responsible for all official matters including jail manual. At this moment I also appreciate the work done by Dawn News tv channel specially its team for exposing the wrongdoings in Karachi's central jail. And the last but not least the SC should take suo moto against those who are facilitating a killer of an innocent guy and provide him lavish style. Keeping in mind during case hearings the sindh govt also supported the convict directly or indirectly and with their support the convict managed to escape from the country.

I watched the show, Nusrat Mingun spoke very reasonable. Shiraz seems to brainwash people and was unfair with Nusrat.

secondly @ sajid after ur comments i watched that program again n then found that Mr jatoi is also enjoying the services of 8 inamtes, there were hand footbal game and carrum board in jail. thirdly as per anchor the name of barrick is ZARDARI ward... hahaha now u can easily understand y it has been given this name.
last but not the least what is the role of Mr jatoi driver in jail y he was sitting outside the jail superitendent office like he works there, n dear friend plz dont ignore that they were taking out all things from this ward because of a planned surprised visit by a judge.. what a petty....

ASK the family of Shahzeb, who will never see their son again..... he is a death row prisoner and shouldnt be living a relaxed life this. I bet he face times his family on a daily basis. Also, the pardon letter came way too late which makes it obvious that it was coerced and invalid in ATC cases.
