KARACHI: The 35th National Boxing Championship will be held at the KPT Sports Complex here from Nov 25 to 29, the Pakistan Boxing Federation announced on Wednesday.

Pugilists belonging to the Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Fata, Gilgit, Army, Navy, Air Force, Railways, Wapda, HEC, KPT and K-Electric will compete for honours in the event which is being held under the aegis of Sindh Boxing Association (SBA).

Besides the annual general council meeting, referees and judges clinic will also be organised on the sidelines of the event.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the organising committee was held at the Lyari Labour Welfare Centre the other day to discuss matters relating to staging of the event in a befitting manner.

According to the SBA secretary Asghar Baloch, six committees — venue committee, accomodation committee, reception committee, transportation committee, media committee and opening and closing committee — have been formed for holding the event.

He said some 130 to 150 boxers across the country are expected to vie for honours in 10 weight divisions.

The SBA secretary said the organising committee meeting has decided to handsomely raise the daily announce of boxers and technical officials.

The boxers, who used to get Rs300 daily, will now get Rs800 per day while technical officials will earn Rs1500 instead of Rs600. Besides, all the outstation teams will be given up and down fares of air conditioned coasters from their destination to Karachi and back.
