KARACHI, Oct 19: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has said that his party does not aim at amassing money, but its struggle is for serving people and ensuring all basic facilities to each and every citizen.

Mr Hussain was addressing party workers by phone on Sunday. His speech was relayed to different parts of Sindh. The address was organized by the Khidmat-i-Khalq Foundation to launch a drive for Zakat and Fitra collection.

The MQM chief recounted instances pertaining to the welfare services rendered by the Foundation over a long period and said that the KKF was a non-political and autonomous organization working independently to help the masses affected by natural calamities. He said that the Foundation had been extending health services to deserving people in urban and rural areas, including far flung areas, equally without any discrimination of caste, creed and religion.

Altaf Hussain said that the KKF intended to launch ambulances and coffin-career service and establish welfare dispensaries in more cities of the province. For the purpose, he said, cooperation from philanthropists was very much needed. He also made mention of the under-construction Nazeer Hussain Hospital in Hyderabad and pointed out that projects of Nazeer Hussain University and nursing home were in pipeline. The hospital, he said, was likely to be completed during the next year.

He also impressed upon the party workers to participate fully in the service to the humanity.

NA SPEAKER Speaker of the National Assembly Chaudhary Amir Hussain called on MQM chief Altaf Hussain in London on Saturday. They exchanged views on Pakistan’s internal and external situation and other issues.

Present on the occasion were Muhammad Aslam Bodla (MNA from Mian Chunnun), Muhammad Shamim Siddiqui (Haq Parast MNA), Dr Imran Farooq (MQM Convener), Tariq Javed, M. Anwar and Tariq Mir (of MQM International Secretariat, London).

A luncheon was also hosted in honour of the Speaker.
