KARACHI: Former federal minister and close aide to former president Asif Ali Zardari, Dr Asim Hussain, was admitted to a private hospital for treatment after complaining of heart problems on Tuesday.
Sindh's Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Senior Minister for Information Nisar Ahmed Khuhro visited Dr Asim in the cardiovascular unit, said the CM's spokesman.
Qaim Ali Shah ordered the director of National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases to provide complete medical help to Dr Asim Hussain.
Dr Asim was remanded for 90 days to Rangers custody in August after the paramilitary force had contended that they had credible information regarding the PPP leader's involvement in terrorism related activities as well as embezzlement of funds.
Last week, a two-member bench of the Sindh High Court issued a notice to the sector commander of the Ghazi Rangers in a contempt of court application filed by the wife of Dr Asim Hussain for disobeying the court’s order, Dawn Newspaper reported.
Dr Zarina Hussain in her application said that the court had directed the Rangers authorities to get his medical tests conducted in the presence of his wife and daughter.
However, she said, neither she was being allowed to visit her ailing husband, nor was he being provided proper medical treatment in custody.
Earlier, the bench had rejected her plea for shifting Dr Hussain to a hospital for treatment after a law officer of the paramilitary force stated that the detainee was being provided all necessary medical care in custody.
She said that her husband was suffering from serious ailments such as diabetes and hypertension and needed medical attention, so he should be admitted in a hospital.
Dr Asim’s arrest came in what has been described as the first major action against the Pakistan Peoples Party leadership during the ongoing Karachi operation.
On August 26, over 12 personnel in plain clothes belonging to the Federal Investigation Agency and an intelligence outfit had arrived at the HEC office and the man leading them introduced himself to Dr Asim and asked him to accompany them. Dr Asim was then taken to an undisclosed location for questioning.
Next day, he was produced before an antiterrorism court which was informed that the Rangers had detained him for 90 days for questioning.
In 2009, Dr Asim was elected Senator from Sindh on a PPP ticket. He served as the minister of petroleum and natural resources and then the prime minister’s adviser with the same portfolio until 2012.
After the 2013 general elections, the PPP government in Sindh made him chairman of the provincial HEC.
He is also believed to be close to the top leadership of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

At that age, these are not considered as serious ailments and should be monitored but not admitted to a hospital.
All these rich crooks get these ailments only when they go to a jail but when they are out they keep on doing their daily business, corruption, as usual. At that times these ailments don't bother them.
Court shoul;d have asked when the man was admitted to hopspital last time for these ailments?

It seem that the Muk Muka is in the pipeline.The process is that the accused is admitted in an hospital of his choice where he remains for an extended period and thereafter released and allowed to leave the country.Pakistan problem is corruption and that is to be sorted out ,otherwise,we will never progress like other countries in our region.

its always like that, because jails aren't good.so a good room in hospital with AC till things settle, i wonder why all the people (the hi profile) who get caught starts health issues :), dont they spend on good food :) , i wish the day would come when doctors proper check them and decide weheter a person really has health issues or not

Diabetics and tension etc are normal these days and could easily be taken care of while under detention too. As to why courts agree to such requests of hospitalisation of culprits is a big question ? Pressure ? If not, what else ?

Two news in today's paper and they show the difference in the treatments of elite and a common man in jails or in police or rangers costudy. One is the crippled murderer who was a healthy man when arrested but due to non a availability of proper treatment becomes paralyzed and then the other as is this asim hussain. I am not sympathising with the murderer just pointing out the stark differences.

Zia-u-din Hospital did a great service to Middle class population of Karachi, by providing health service and providing jobs. He is prosecuted mainly cause of political reason. Everyone make mistake and no one kosher.
How about those religious people who openly spreading hate and asking there follower to kill other minorities. How many people punished for burning minorities alive. This is a country of hate lover and democracy hater.

Did he not have Diabetes and hypertension before being caught? Was he living in the hospital then? Who is admin trying to fool? such chronic illness do not require hospital admission.If he was faking chest pain,that could be evaluated in a matter of few hours and then discharged back to the jail.There is no rule in the book that says family must be allowed while tests are performed.Pakistan has been a laughing stock for the world due to corrupt politicians who only care about their own interests.Is there any sane physician in the team of treating doctors with a back bone? Will be watching out.

Not trying to be insensitive, majority of the people in Pakistan and all over the world over 40 years of age suffer from hypertension and diabetes; these are common diseases of the new world due to physical inactivity and being a couch potato, treatment is relatively simple with tons of medications available, may be the good doctor needs exercise and simple food "best cure for both these diseases", which he probably can get in Jail better than at his home. It is also a good tool to get out of the country. What is needed is speedy trial, government should prove it's case or let him loose. Furthermore, if the law say his family can see him than they must be allowed visits.

@Saleem Very good point, on "asking court to produce records on since when he was suffering with these ailments"; you know better one can get all sorts of records with little "cost of doing business". Remember the case of Jatoi's son, all sort of records were produced to prove he was juvenile, no body ever questioned the issuance of new birth certificates, etc; God bless Sharia law nothing happened to this "kid", may be he was innocent.

Other we don't know and for last 25 yrs these politician are blaming for corruption and talk to any one either they have proof or they know someone who know about there corruption but upto now now one give the single proof.
