SUKKUR: The Sukkur district administration has failed to install CCTV cameras inside and outside the circuit bench of the Sindh High Court building despite the court’s directives.

Two weeks ago the court had asked the administration to install the latest CCTV system to make the court secure but the administration has so far not found any contractor to do the job, according to sources.

The sources said that a renowned firm had completed a survey for the installation of the cameras and submitted a report to the administration, according to which 35 to 40 cameras were required to be installed in and around the court premises at an approximate cost ranging between Rs2.5 and Rs3 million.

Contractors were reluctant to take on the job without the issuance of tender, said sources.

Following the court’s directives, a meeting attended by Sukkur commissioner, DIG, SSP, deputy commissioner and others was held on Sept 3 where it was decided to install a CCTV system for protection of the SHC building and DC Shahzad Fazal Abbasi subsequently directed the works & services department to complete the job but so far it did not happen.

Speaking to Dawn Mr Abbasi said the work was in progress, tenders had been invited and the CCTV system would be installed before the end of this month.
