MARDAN: District nazim Himayatullah Mayar inaugurated a book fair at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School Shah, Dhand Baba, here on Monday.

According to organisers, around 50,000 books on different subjects are on display at the event organised by the National Book Foundation to highlight the importance of books and increase the interest of the people, especially students, in them.

The district nazim said the people should read more and more books as it help them broaden their vision.

He also requested the NBF to increase the event’s duration to the benefit of the people in the region.

Mayar asked girl students to take interest in co-curricular activities and read books on different subjects, especially history, religion, general knowledge, science, medicine, sports and fashion.

He also urged school administrations to contact the district administration for help to increase the habit of book reading among students.

NBF official Akbar Ali Mohmand told participants that 15-50 per cent discount was offered to students and teachers on books at the fair.

Meanwhile, Awami National Party provincial president Ameer Haider Khan Hoti on Sunday said his party was ready to join hands with all political forces, including rival Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, for the province’s development.

Addressing party workers at his residence here, Hoti said ANP would never compromise its struggle for the rights of Pakhtuns.

He said his party’s efforts to help Pakhtuns overcome miserable conditions and progress would continue.

The ANP leader said the PTI-led provincial government had so far done nothing for the people’s welfare.

“We will continue opposing the faulty policies of the government,” he said.

Hoti said the ANP leadership and workers had always raised voice for the rights of Pakhtuns whether they were in power or not.

He said it was only ANP, which had in actuality fought for the rights and prosperity of Pakhtuns.

The ANP leader said his party’s local government in Mardan would live up to the expectations of local residents.
