PESHAWAR: A major-ranked officer of the Pakistan Army and five militants were killed late during an attack on a checkpost in Spin Wam area of North Waziristan tribal region's Mirali tehsil, security sources told DawnNews on Monday.
Militants attacked Dandi Kuch checkpost situated in Kaka Ziarat area of Spin Wam near the Pak-Afghan border killing an officer of the Pakistan Army identified as Major Ismail. The area lies adjacent to Afghanistan's Khost province.
Security personnel resorted to retaliatory firing killing five militants.
Security sources added that the attackers, who had used light and heavy weapons, managed to escape from the site taking advantage of darkness and also took away the bodies of the colleagues.
North Waziristan is one of the seven regions in Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) governed by tribal laws which is situated along the Pak-Afghan border and is rife with Taliban militant activity.

The Pakistan Army launched Zarb-i-Azb, a comprehensive operation in North Waziristan tribal region last summer to drive out Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other extremist militants who launch attacks on government and civilian targets, a week after the brazen insurgent attack on the country's busiest airport in Karachi.

@MJK . This is the real job of our beloved army, to protect us against both internal and external threats but not to rule us. Politicians regardless how corrupt they are, are still accountable. Any one can and file an FIR against any politician. Let me know if you can do the same against an Army man even he is no longer in service. Beside we have see enough Army rules and the price we are paying is also primarily due to their short sighted policies. That said I still love my Army and have highest regard when they act like a fighting force.

Operation Zarb e Azb didn't fail us, NATO and the Afghan Government did. Just hours after these militants in Afghanistan were freed , there is a fresh wave of attacks.
Pakistan may have to wage the battle once again because of the gross negligence carried out in Afghanistan.

@Faraz Zubair , I do not think that there has been anything as gross negligence, all this has been purposefully done so that Pakistan is unable to find any window of stabilization and we all know who is behind it and what one development is really irking them.

why the terrorist cannot came to an end in spite of the spending of a billion of dollar and blood of the Pakistani people.
The news we hear every day as a dozen of the militant killed in air strike but they does not show their Identity and also no live coverage to the media.
It also doubt me whether the terrorist killed every day is 5-10 year old or they are 70-90 and plus of age. ?
