KARACHI: Freight forwarders and air cargo agents announced to call off their strike on Thursday after an understanding with the government over the issue of 8 per cent minimum tax on the turnover of service industry.

Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman Tariq Bajwa held a meeting with representatives of Pakistan International Freight Forwarders Association (PIFFA) and Air Cargo Agents Association of Pakistan (ACCAP) in Islamabad on Thursday to look into the grievances of freight forwarders and cargo agents.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar decided to form a committee, headed by Haroon Akhtar and members from PIFFA, ACCAP and a chartered accountant, to evaluate the impact of 8pc minimum tax on service providers. The finance minister asked the committee to submit its report within a week.

After the deliberations, both the associations decided to call off the strike that started on Sept 1.
