Ashwin, Sharma star as India break Sri Lanka Test jinx

COLOMBO: India defeated Sri Lanka by 117 runs in the third and final Test in Colombo on Tuesday to win a series on the island for the first time since 1993.
Sri Lanka, set a victory target of 386, were bowled out for 268 after tea on the fifth day despite a fighting 110 from skipper Angelo Mathews.
Mathews and debutant Kusal Perera put on 135 for the sixth wicket, but the dismissal of both batsmen on either side of tea sealed Sri Lanka's fate at the Sinhalese Sports Club.
Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin finished with four wickets, while seamer Ishant Sharma took three.
India clinched the series 2-1 after Sri Lanka won the opening Test in Galle by 63 runs and the tourists drew level with a 278-run victory in the second match at the P. Sara Oval in Colombo.
Brief scores: India 312 and 274; Sri Lanka 201 and 268.

One has to appreciate Sri Lanakan groundsmen for preparing perfect test match pitches throughout the series. Normally sub-continental teams revert to flat tracks and dust bowls for their home series, but, these pitches offered good seam movement for the quicks, good purchase for the spinners and ample reward for the persevering batsman. The series was closely fought till the final session, but, in the end, Sri Lankan batting let them down. Too much a burden was put on Mathews alone.

To win the series 3-0 would've been good but the 2-1 result IMO is even greater. After losing the first match from a winning position, to come back and win the series shows resilience & will do wonders for the confidence of Kohli & his young team.

Cricket sucks! Only activities are like, a bowler runs for few seconds, throws the ball and if the batsman hits it slow and starts running with the non striking one.. one or max two fielders will run behind the ball for few seconds!! The game is alive because of some 3rd world countries can only find a way to win in their daily life and get aspired by the huge money their Heros earn! No wonder why people from the subcontinent are so much in love with this..cause it's lazy, money making!

@Roy Have you played cricket?....it will wear you out....we used to play 3 day matches and we used to be drained....not all sports are supposed to be about running continuously....there is a reason why its called Test Match....it will test your patience, edurance, stamina and focus....
