PESHAWAR: The pen-down strike by the Workers Welfare Board Employees Union for service regularisation, reinstatement of sacked workers and removal of certain officials entered 10th day on Friday.

The union announced it would hold a meeting with the Muttahida Labour Federation on Aug 31 to make a joint strategy to press the government for accepting their demands.

WWBEEU president Shah Zulqarnain told Dawn that the government’s indifference to their demands had forced WWB workers to observe pen-down strike.

He said the union extended deadline after deadline for acceptance of its demands but the relevant officials didn’t acted positively.

“We have planned a joint meeting with Muttahida Labour Federation on Aug 31 to take workers into confidence over the possible agitation,” he said. Zulqarnain said the chief minister, labour minister and chief secretary should ensure that necessary measures are taken to end unrest among WWB workers.

He said the WWB workers had vowed to continue with the strike during a meeting at the WWB offices in Hayatabad, where worker leaders Iqbal Khan, Ayaz Khan, Syed Liaquat Bacha and Aurangzeb Khan were noted among those in attendance. — Bureau Report
