KARACHI: The Pakistan Rangers informed on Friday an antiterrorism court about the 90-day preventive detention of a central leader of Pasban for questioning.

The personnel of the paramilitary force along with their legal team produced Usman Moazzam Siddiqui, general secretary of Pasban which is a sociopolitical group that once had ties with the Jamaat-i-Islami, in the chamber of ATC-III Judge Saleem Raza Baloch.

The paramilitary force officials contended that he was detained for three months for inquiry under Section 11-EEEE (1) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 upon receiving credible information about his involvement in the offences that came within the ambit of the ATA.

The production of the detainee along with a detention order and a jail warrant was made in accordance with Section 11-EEEE (3) of the ATA for the information of the court, they added.

It may be recalled that the Sindh High Court sought comments from Rangers officials on a petition after the detainee went missing along with his son.

Mr Siddiqui’s wife petitioned the SHC in July that her husband and son were picked up by the paramilitary force in a raid on their residence in F. B. Area on July 19.
