LAHORE: A serial child rapist was killed in Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) police custody in Ferozewala on Wednesday.
A police spokesman said Haroon, 22, was arrested by the CIA police for abducting and raping seven minor girls in different areas of the city.
He said swabs of the suspect were taken and after forensic and DNA tests it was confirmed that he raped the minor girls after abducting them.
He said the suspect used to lure minor girls to deserted places and sexually assault them.
A police party was taking the suspect to the place where he had committed the offence when he allegedly tried to snatch a rifle from a policeman that went off, killing him (Haroon) on the spot.

I think in the last one month, this is the fourth such instance where police is taking the suspect to the place to collect evidence and somehow he or his accomplice try to do something stupid that result in the death of the suspect.
I don't know and I may be wrong here but it may point towards "staged encounters" as such large number of incidents and not a single one resulting in any bullet injuries to any of the policeman involved clearly shows that its a one sided affair.
I am not siding with the criminals but I don't think police can take the role of judiciary and pass judgments and execute people. Let the law takes its own course.

@SiD Not at all. The crime and the real criminal remain undetected in case of extra-judicial killings. The story that the accused were being taken to the crime scene and attacked by his supporter is simply a blatant lie. These killings are akin to mob justice and a scar on Punjab Police who are unable to properly investigate crimes and provide credible evidence to the courts of law for prosecution of the criminals.

This is extrajudicial killing. The person has done a heinous crime but we need to reform the judicial process in this country so that such cases are managed in time and appropriately. Extrajudicial killing is also a heinous crime. This is of no benefit to society and will lead to further chaos.
The people responsible for improving judicial processes need to do their job of improving the judicial process in Pakistan which often induces Police to go for extrajudicial killing. Two wrongs do not make a right; rather they compound the wrong.

I know we are all saying good riddance, but this is not justice. The victims did not get closure.
We cannot let police officers decide guilt. Also DNA is not 100% accurate. It should only be used to rule out people and not to include them.
DNA data analytics is based on extrapolation. There is little material difference even between us and chimps, less than 1.3%. 99.9% of all human DNA is the same.

@Zubaida khan. Sorry, NO. DNA tests are based on the uniqueness of each human's DNA. Even though the difference in our genes is relatively small, it is sufficient for each of us to look different. DNA technology is well developed though I am sure if Pakistani laboratories have that technology.

This is one of many comedy of errors but errors in favour of police only where either the gun go off my mistake and hits directly the suspect OR the suspect tries to run away and the police kills him OR the suspect is killed by an invading party of motorcyclists believed to be the suspect's accomplices who killed him for fear of their own recognition.
Pakistan police is the only police in the world who take the suspects to location of crime to understand the nature of crime or to find the hidden weapons.
May I ask, under what law can a police party take the suspect for identification of crime spots or hidden weapons?

@Zubaida Khan: I think you know little about DNA matching as criminal evidence.
99.9% human DNA is indeed the same but that leaves about 20 billion sequences which are unique to each person.
To give this number perspective, the probability that all humans ever born on this earth since humankind evolved have the same exact time of birth [i.e. second, minute, hour, date and month (but of course not year) of birth being same] is higher than the probability of DNA test incriminating an innocent individual, except in case of congenital twins.
So if he had a congenital twin, may be you are right, other wise not.

So, puls muqabla!! While that appears to be an apparently viable option in view of a rotten judicial infrastructure, it could be disastrous in the long run. If that is the strategy then it must be executed by a well organized team, properly supervised by competent authority and for a defined term. Allowing discretion to people to use authority in that manner is like opening several cuts in the body which if not closed properly and soon, could lead to cancer. Be careful!

One thing for sure, these child molesters do not stop until they are dead. They also create more child molesters.....99% of the child molesters were molested when they were minors and they pick their victims at the same age when they were molested.
In this case it may be a false encounter but society is better off without this animal.

Extra-judicial killing? Give me a break here. This monster was raping minors. He ruined 9 innocent lives. He robbed them of their innocence. He turned rest of their lives into living inferno. He deserves no sympathy, or support. God bless those policemen who eliminated this scum bag in lets say a stage encounter. Anyone who takes human life or dignity in his hands, or preys upon helpless souls need sternest possible punishment. No mercy for inhumane devils.
