Fifteen years ago on this day, Pakistan lost a legend; Nazia Hassan was the epitome of a true star. Dubbed the 'Queen of Pop', Hassan's contribution to Pakistani music was mammoth and she changed the map of the industry for other women and opened doors for females no one thought even existed.

She wasn't any less popular across the border -- Her song Aap Jaisa Koi which she sang at the age of 15 for the Indian film Qurbani (1980) became one of the biggest hits in Bollywood film music and Nazia went on to become the first Pakistani to win a Filmfare award. To this day, she is the youngest recipient of the award from the Best Female Playback Singer category.

Soon after came Disco Deewane, an album in which her brother Zoheb also collaborated on vocals with her.

Fifteen years ago, the beautiful, graceful Nazia lost her battle with cancer at the young age of 35. She may be gone but she is far from forgotten:

Fans from all over the globe acknowledged the impact she made on the fraternity.

Some decided to take a trip down memory lane and listen to some of their favourites.

Heartfelt messages poured in on social media.

But the truly heart-shattering message came from her brother.

It is evident that Hassan lives on in the hearts of millions of people, whose lives she touched with her music.
