Art and garbage

Published August 2, 2015

WE have been trying for the last several months to draw the attention of civic authorities to tons of garbage and the stinking open drains along our buildings overlooking the sea in Clifton’s Block 2. Incidentally, one of the most prestigious institutes of higher learning, the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, is located in block 2.

We have repeatedly brought this fact to the notice of civic authorities and even invited the Commissioner of Karachi to the school for a presentation on our problems, but all in vain. The commissioner did issue orders for action, which were ignored by his subordinates with impunity.

On July 29, because of the ceaseless efforts of the school, the civic authorities moved into action and removed part of the garbage. Still tons of garbage is lying scattered all over the place and along with the stinking open rainwater drain and broken roads.

In a state of helplessness, we appeal to the Rangers’ Director General to visit the area and come to our aid as a mark of respect to the Indus school.
