Water and power secretary suspends Pesco officials over poor performance

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Ministry of Water and Power on Wednesday suspended 7 XEN's and 15 SDO's of Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) citing poor performance as Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses in their respective areas have increased.

The suspension orders were issued on the directives of Secretary Ministry of Water and Power Mr Muhammad Younus Dagha after a monthly performance review meeting of the company.

A spokesman for the ministry Zafaryab Khan told DawnNews that the suspended official of Pesco includes XEN Mansehra Rural, XEN Charsadda, XEN city, XEN City Rural, XEN Mardan 1, XEN Bunnu1 and XEN Bunnu 2.

The spokesman said 15 SDOs were suspended whose AT&C losses increased more than 4.5 per cent as compared to the previous year.

The water and power secretary directed Pesco to complete meter reading in 98 sub-divisions up to August 2015.

During the meeting, the secretary also showed concern on no progress with regards to incentive package of recovery of outstanding amounts.

The secretary also expressed concern over no progress regarding line losses calculations in Pesco by a third party.

Thats good move for accountability. How about taking similar actions in Karachi, suspending some fat cats collecting big salary but doing no work to solve public problems. Such bureacratic, aristrocratic junky attitude for junky officials must go. Either they work their ars off to serve the public or show them door. Enough is enough.

There is an amzing story worth mention in this context. When I wanted to dispose of my old window A/c's to one of the advertisers who offered best prices, I asked who are the people buying such old A/C ? His reply baffled me.He said, people of remote areas in KPK. I asked if they were smuggling them to Afghanistan? He said no, they are using themselves. On my surprise about how they could afford such a costly luxury, he said, they do not pay for electricity. There are people who have no shoes in their feet but they live in air-conditioned huts.

@M.Saeed Having lived in KP I can tell you thats absolute rubbish and nonsense. Where they don't pay bills there is the worst kind load shedding and where they do pay bills there is none. Stop trolling and blatantly lying. No one buys window A/Cs anywhere anymore. People throughout are now investing in low consumption split air conditioners. You think Nawaz and Abid Sher Ali or Shahbaz pay their bills? At least the KP government and cabinet does. In Punjab and Sindh you have the worst kind of corruption but they aren't being caught, even for murder and in KP a sitting cabinet minister was taken down and others will be soon. Think twice before lying.

@khanm Once someone is on the government payroll it is very difficult to remove them. They can go to court or use other means to delay their impending removal, plus the procedure is arduous.
