QIETTA: At least two officers of Balochistan Constabulary (BC) were killed when armed militants opened fire at them in Quetta's Satellite Town area on Monday night.

Police sources said unidentified militants opened fire at the two BC officers — who were identified as sub-inspector Fazalur Rehman and sub-inspector Hafeezullah — minutes before Iftar in Satellite Town area.

Sub-inspector Fazalur Rehman was killed on the spot, whereas, sub-inspector Hafeezullah succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital. The police officials were attacked by assailants as they were travelling home on a motorcycle. According to police, the assailants escaped unhurt from the spot.

The dead bodies were brought to Civil Hospital Quetta for postmortem. Police and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel rushed to the site of attack and cordoned off the area as an investigation into the incident was started.

Police termed the incident as an act of targeted killing.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

Almost three weeks earlier, eight policemen were killed in two incidents of targeted killing in the city.
