ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s tennis team squad left for Indonesia on Monday night to take part in the semi-finals of Asia-Oceania Group-II tie against Indonesia, which will start from July 14 at Gelora Bung Korno Tennis Stadium in Jakarta.

The team comprises Pakistan No.1 Aqeel Khan, Abid Ali Akbar and non-playing captain Davis Cupper Hameedul Haq.

Samir Iftikhar, who is in the US and Aisam-ul-Haq, who is currently in England, will join the team in coming days.

Meanwhile, speaking to Dawn, Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) secretary Khalid Rehmani said the Pakistan team had the potential to do well.

“On paper we have a stronger team than Indonesia because they have only one known international player, whereas we have two prominent players — Aisam and Aqeel,” he said.

To a query, he said that the final round of Group-II matches will be held in September.
