Acid attack victim fights for life

SIALKOT: The Kotwali police have registered a case against a young resident of Sambrial for throwing acid on a student on her refusal to marry him a week ago.

Awais Aslam wanted to marry Mahnoor Ishtiaq but she turned down the proposal. Awais started threatening her with dire consequences and on June 22, she was coming out of her college on Maharaja Road when he threw acid on her face and fled.

Grievously injured, the girl was brought to Lahore’s Mayo Hospital where her condition is critical.

Police claim to have started investigation but there is no arrest despite the passage of a week.

The victim’s family has urged Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to ensure early arrest of the suspect.

FOUND DEAD: A trader was found dead at his home in Sialkot city’s congested Muradpur area on Wednesday.

Muhammad Saleem was alone at his home as members of his family had gone to see their relatives. They returned home and found Saleem dead.

A pistol was recovered by his side.
