PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is embarking on a plan for rehabilitation and patronage of special people.

Initially, Rs50 million will be distributed among 10,123 handicapped people, while more schemes are also in the pipeline, especially in the coming fiscal budget.

Dr Mehar Taj Roghani, adviser to the chief minister, said this while addressing the annual day and certificate distribution ceremony at Frontier Law College, Peshawar, on Saturday.

Other speakers, including principal of the college Akhtar Ali Shah, appreciated the steps of the present government for elimination of corruption and ensuring transparency in the society.

Dr Roghani asked the graduating law students to work with enthusiasm for providing cheap and speedy justice to people, especially the poor, as they had to become lawyers and judges in practical life.

She said that ensuring supremacy of merit, law and justice in the society was the goal of present provincial government and sought support of the lawyers in this regard.

She claimed that the government was actively pursuing the agenda of change, adding that record legislation had been done to bring about discipline in government affairs and ensure relief for the poor.

The adviser said that a special programme was being started for proper care of the orphan and street children with close liaison of foreign donors.

“Hospitals for rehabilitation of drug addicts are being increased, while condition of Darul Amans for helpless and stranded women improved to mitigate their miseries,” she said.
