HYDERABAD: The Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) has raised objections over the ranking of universities as announced by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and expressed doubts over the ranking procedure, it is learnt.

In a communication, LUMHS Registrar Dr Bux Ali Pitafi has stated that the objections were raised in a meeting of all deans, chairpersons and directors of varsity departments that was held under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Noshad A. Shaikh. The meeting “cast doubts over the transparency of the ranking procedure by the HEC”, it said.

It said: “Senior faculty and administrative officers further pointed out that the authenticity of the ranking is tainted by the fact that some universities, which have the charter of general university such as Isra University Hyderabad and Riphah International University Islamabad, have been listed under the category of medical universities. This speaks volumes about the ineptness of the ranking process.”

The meeting observed that “the announcement of unfair ranking has caused unrest among faculty and students; some of them demanding that the university should register a protest against the ranking and should not participate in the process in future.”
