KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court remanded a suspect to prison in a double murder case pertaining to May 12 mayhem.

Mohammad Naeem alias Guddu along with his absconding accomplices had been booked for allegedly killing two workers of Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) in Model Colony on May 12, 2007.

After the period of his physical remand expired, the police presented the suspect before the court where judge Bashir Ahmed Bashir Ahmed Khoso of ATC-I sent Naeem to prison on 14-day judicial remand. The investigation officer was also asked to submit a probe report on next hearing.

According to the prosecution, Asghar Ali Shah and Jahanzeb of PML-N were gunned down and two other sustained injuries in Model Colony area.

The city had witnessed one of the most terrifying incidents in recent history when around 50 people were killed and over 100 wounded across the city during May 12 riots when the then deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry arrived at Karachi airport to attend a lawyers’ gathering. The former Chief Justice was forced to fly back to Islamabad after nine hours' restricted stay at the airport.
