KOHAT: The police on Saturday arrested an alleged ringleader of an inter-provincial gang of robbers from the Sarafa Bazaar here. The robber was allegedly involved in the theft of 12 kilogram silver from Karachi in February.

The action was taken on a tip-off received by district police officer Mohammad Sohaib that a criminal involved in robbery in Iqbal market in Karachi East had entered Kohat for selling the booty, said an official.

The official said that the DPO constituted a special team headed by SHO city police station, Iqbal Momand, which raided a shop in the jewellery market and arrested the robber, Abid Hussain, resident of Lahore, with three kilograms of looted silver.

The suspected robber told the police that the rest of nine kilograms of stolen silver was distributed among other members of his gang whose whereabouts were not known to him.

The police official said that the ringleader had disclosed names of other members of his group.

He said that the Kohat police had informed their counterparts in Karachi about the arrest of the ringleader of the robbers’ gang.
