KARACHI: Mr Masood Hamid, Director Marketing, Pakistan Herald Publications Private Limited (PHPL), who was found shot dead on Friday night, will be laid to rest on Sunday, the Dawn Media Group said in a statement.

His funeral prayers will be held after Zuhar at Bait-us-Salam Mosque in Phase IV, DHA. Mr Hamid received a single shot, and apparently died on the spot. The unknown gunmen also left the weapon used in the murder in his car before fleeing the scene.

DIG South Dr Jameel Ahmed has already appointed SP Faizullah Korejo to investigate the incident.

Mr Hamid remained associated with PHPL for the past 28 years. He was a natural leader who in his capacity as Director Marketing built one of the finest teams of marketing people for Dawn and other publications of PHPL.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed profound grief and sorrow over the death of Mr Hamid. Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid also denounced the tragic incident and extended his condolences to the grieving family. Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad in his message condemned the murder of Mr Hamid.

APNS: Hameed Haroon, President of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society, and Sarmad Ali, Secretary General, said in a statement that with the murder of Mr Hamid the newspaper industry had lost a talented professional. They noted that Mr Hamid served the Dawn Group for about 30 years with distinction and devotion.

“The APNS acknowledges the services of Mr Hamid and joins his family in the hour of their grief,” the statement said.
The Pakistan Herald Workers Union recalled Mr Hamid’s contribution to the Dawn Group’s success and called for an investigation into his murder.
