Funeral of Dawn's Marketing Director to be held tomorrow

KARACHI: The funeral of Dawn's Marketing Director Masood Hamid, who was shot dead a day earlier in Karachi's Defence's neighbourhood, will be held on Sunday (tomorrow).
The funeral will be held after Zuhr prayers at Baitus Salam Mosque in Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Phase IV.
Hamid was found murdered in his car in DHA Phase-VIII on Friday night.
He was killed by a single shot, and apparently died on the spot. Unidentified gunmen also left the weapon used in the murder in his car before fleeing.
Hamid had been associated with the PHPL for the past 28 years. He was a natural leader, and in his capacity as marketing director, he had built one of the finest teams of marketing people for Dawn and other PHPL publications. He was also actively involved in promoting the cause of the newspaper industry, and was a former secretary general of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society.
He has left wife Afshan Masood, daughter Tooba and son Asad, and a large number of colleagues and friends to mourn his death.

As a reader of dawn,kindly accept my heartfelt condolences.May the soul rest in peace.There is a systematic plan to wipe out intellectuals and moderate people from the main stream of pakistan.I sincerely wish, some serious steps are taken, otherwise ,as a country you are heading for a bigger ccrises.As someone said the ' worst is yet to come'

Dawn is the most respected newspaper in this subcontinent. Even we from India read Dawn everyday at the dawn. This incident is really heart breaking. We want Dawn to grow and grow.

@Suresh Namboothiri , That is so true brother Suresh, I carry Dawn wherever I go. I love Dawn's opinion and non-political articles. I appreciate the rough atmosphere and rigorous demands of the job they face, but they always come out the best in reporting. May the Providence grant strength to Bibi Afshan Masood, Tooba and Asad strength to withstand the loss of their loved ones and family and friends keep their support and social interaction with the family. (Personal Note- I do not believe in crying for the dead. I do not believe in Heaven and Hell. They are all on earth and we make and live in them the way we want. I care for the ones left behind and cry for them if need be but not for the dead.)

Dawn has changed my perceptions on many issues relating to our two countries. It's fair, non biased news coverage, made me see the things as they are, and that blind nationalism, means nothing. The poor still need food, not grandeur. RIP Mr Hamid.

As a Sri Lankan I too mourn the death of veteran Journalist at the hands of an unknown assassin. I too closely follow The Dawn Newspaper for the last several years . We pray for the deceased family and the Dawn Newspaper could not be silenced.

Is this heartbreaking tragedy related to the by polling? High profile personalities are being diverted to distract public from the by election. Is it MQM or someone else trying to give bad name to the party? I m not pro MQM but that is my view.

Target killing of Masood Hamid makes me very sad and angry. His death is a loss for all of us. Drastic measures are needed to curb the gun violence in the country. The easy access of guns to the criminals and getting away with the crimes is a serious problem. We must pursue these criminals until they are arrested and brought to justice.

We have lost a selfless soul always seen at tirelessly guiding colleagues mentoring juniors and leading people channelize directions. A role model for followers and as per a commentator instead of crying for the dead rather fndways to fill the void with charcs of the deceased. Heaven and hellhereafter are mirror images of mundane life
