KARACHI: Masood Hamid, the marketing director of Pakistan Herald Publications Limited, was found murdered in his car in Defence Housing Authority Phase-VIII on Friday night, The Dawn Media Group said in a statement.

Mr Hamid was killed by a single shot, and apparently died on the spot. Unidentified gunmen also left the weapon used in the murder in his car before fleeing.

DIG-South Dr Jamil Ahmed told Dawn that he had set up an inquiry team led by SSP-South Investigation Faizullah Korejo to investigate the case. The probe body had been directed to submit its report within the next four days, added the officer.

Mr Hamid had been associated with the PHPL for the past 28 years. He was a natural leader, and in his capacity as marketing director, he had built one of the finest teams of marketing people for Dawn and other PHPL publications. He was also actively involved in promoting the cause of the newspaper industry, and was former secretary general of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society.

He has left wife Afshan Masood, daughter Tooba and son Asad, and a large number of colleagues and friends to mourn his death.
