HYDERABAD: Police on Monday claimed to have shot and wounded Zeeshan Hashmi, describing him as a notorious dacoit/absconder, during an encounter with him and his associate in Latifabad Unit No. 11.

Hyderabad SSP Irfan Baloch told the media that Hashmi along with his associate attacked a team of the B-Section police late in the evening

and was trying to flee. The police and anti-terrorist squad SSP followed and challenged them, he added.

An encounter ensued during which Hashmi received bullet wounds and was arrested, SSP Baloch said, adding that his associate, however, managed to escape.

A pistol with several rounds was seized from Hashmi, he said.
