Why is Musharraf not yet punished for his crimes against Pakistan?

Long live the great and honest leader. A real patriot and visionary that this thankless and confused nation didn't recognise due to the misinformation in our local media about him when he was in power.

No matter what you have done for the army; you were illegal ruler and you should be taught lesson so that no one should adventure to topple the legitimate democratic government in the country.

General Musharraf is one of the few patriotic leaders known to Pakistan.He is a man of great integerity and honor who is being victimised by politicians whose loyalty to Pakistan is questionable and they are running the country as a family enterprise.All cases against him are baseless,bogus and without any merit.He enjoys international recognition as an HONEST man and limiting his freedom of movement is a disgrace for the Govt of Pakistan.Pakistan Zindabad.

Before having a strong govt you need an honest and competent one. What is the point of having a strong govt when it is a family run business that is incompetent, dishonest and likes to fill its frequent flyers points?

The general is trying to remain relevant. He could not have done what is being done now because he did not share the same political support in Pakistan, and he never had international business connections or access to financial markets. He only knew how to ring the IMF cash register.

Musharraf had his shortcomings and problems but he was far far better then the lot ruling us for the last 7 years. The problem with our leaders is that once in power they focus only on staying in power for the rest of their natural lives and the country. .. its people ... and everything good becomes a second priority at best, if not completely forgotten. I belive he was more capable, honest and motivated then these arrogant and selfish rulers we have now. It's a pity that he couldn't do better when it was his time. May Allah help and guide us to choose wisely... is what we can all pray.

How can the govt be strong when the Army can take care of everything as you imply?

This guy has completely lost it. He did a poor job as an Army Chief, the country nosedived towards violence. Raheel Sharif is much better than him.

A person, of any profession or occupation, who talks of imaginary external threats to the country is person who is compulsively fearful. No doubt there are problems within - economic, social, political and polarised religious. What country does not or has not gone through such issues & even more. It does not imply that we will become Syria, Libya, Iraq or Afghanistan. We might be followers in the main of a religion born in Arabia but we are South Asians by culture. We are strong, more tenacious and better able to tackle and withstand political and social traumas. Our intellectual horsepower is infinitely more superior. Arabs may have oil wealth but we have something more enriching - brains, common sense and a desire to accommodate differences. There are zealots and spoilers in every society. We have our share. But we are not about to fall apart. Ex General sahib may have done a lot to arm the services while in power. But it is time to let go. Let our democratically elected representatives, good and not so good, help us muddle through our immediate difficulties.

Musharaf is no saint, but in reality he is crook and after all was a illegal president and dictator. He and his PM almost sold the country to build cash and his cronies stole money like crazy. He has admitted creating Taliban, bungled badly in Cargil and mistreated Baluchis . Although he made the press and electronic media free which is unique in Muslim world. The nation should appreciate the freedom of press which we are enjoying. What a waste of eight years under his rule.

It's not my concern. But I was curious how do you define a "strong government" in pakistan?. Please enlighten me with feasible, possible & probable solutions! Wasn't he the president for sometime? Again, it's an internal problem of pakistan, but the international community would like to know as aid is given left & right & I pay taxes for the same.

I am amazed at people wishing that he was punished. During his time Pakistan never took a loan. Electricity was there. Corruption was going down. During his time ruppee became 25% stronger against the dollar. Since he left the ruppee has lost mre than 50%. So what has done wrong. He went after nawaz, zardari and ch iftikhar. He was better than the 2 big political parties PPP and PML N. Much more honest, had integrity. If he comes to power again, I would recommend that this time he go after all terrorists and their foreign funders regardless of who they are. Moreover better relations with Iran and China.Communicate better with Western media to better Pakistan;s image. Counter India with only ethical techniques. We do not have to stoop to the level of our enemies in trying to combat them as we loose the support of God if we act like them. We need good relations with US, the West, China, Russia and Iran. The Mughal Empire was friendly to the Iranians, the Orttomans and the Central Asian Turks. That was how it had hold on India. First of all he is the enemy of Nawaz Sharif and his government for reasons known to the whole world.Now according to his statement Pakistan army can deal with any so called traditional enemies' disruptive actions against Pakistan.Any body can read the underlying meaning of this statement.He is thus shielded by the army with whose presence in the country no civilian government can do any harm to him.It is a lesson for the military rulers,present and future,to be aware of any harmful action against him.That is the reason he is issuing such statements even when he is in house arrest.The present civilian government can not take any action against him as,based on the past solid facts,military rule has become a norm in Pakistan.

Lal Masjid mis-adventure and creation of TTP, Kargil with brutal retaliation from the other side, putting Pakistan on the path of destruction and humiliation by entering some one else's war: need I say more about this visionary leader with great fore sight? Did he make money for himself? Sure he did and I have to give him credit for that. Coming from India with nothing, metamorphosing himself into becoming a 'syed', joining the army and biting the hand that fed him, yes he has vision. But now he has to go like many others before him. For more than half of its history, especially, last 40 years, military has been directly and indirectly ruling this country and responsible for where it is today. Sharifs, Zardaris and the rest of the cronies would not have been ruling if democracy had the chance to flourish and go through its filtering process. It's a sad day that people have to praise a power hungry dictator. Musharraf is correct about something. He did 'arm the military with latest weapons and gears' like his former boss and spiritual guru Zia had done. Several generations will have to pay for what Zia did. These 'weapons and gears' are more dangerous than anything out there.

I like this person since he is honest and sincere, but, he had his time as Chief Executive and he didn't do much in terms of fundamentally changing Pakistan ' s core problems. He could have abolished feudalism, crushed extremism, created more provinces and made education free and compulsory up till metric. But, Alas. Pakistan is improving everyday under the leadership of Sharifs. Law and order is improving, Terrorists are being hanged, Load Shedding across the country is reducing, GDP growth rate is rising, Stock market is rising, Infrastructure projects are being built, etc. From what I see Musharraf is trying to make sure present government does not succeed or stay until 2018.

He was given millions of dollars by the US to help the poor people of Pakistan. What he does with all that money , he goes and buys arms for the army to coerce India,Iran and Afghanistan and buys US fighter jets through third party. You should be tried for war crimes on your own admissions regarding low intensity war against India and the Kargil blunder because large number of Pakistani army were killed and so were the Indian Jawans. You want to be the King again upon return of military government in Pakistan. Pakistanis want to live in peace amongst themselves and with their Afghani, Indian and Iranian neighbors with dignity. There are many sad truths about Pakistan that partisan political minds, not just inside the country but in the West, just don't get. Thanks to history, customs and conventions, be they regional or tribal, the country is almost ungovernable. This has been amply demonstrated by successive political parties intent only on entrenching and enriching themselves when they are in power. There invariably is only lip service paid to the national good as all-too-many self-serving politicians bury their snouts in the national trough. Pakistan, like many other countries, needs strong leadership at the centre. So far, none has emerged from the political class, leaving only the military to offer up such people. But they inevitably are unacceptable to Western democratic countries. And, of course there was the disastrous experience with the dunderhead Zia ul Haq, whose archaic, narrow-minded policies have deeply scarred the national psyche and landscape. That legacy is being paid for in blood not just of innocent civilians but the jawans and officer of the very army that he was so unfortunately given command of by the grandstanding ZA Bhutto, who the dunderhead hung! So who was the bigger dunderhead? That's indicative of a multitude of sad truths I mentioned earlier.
