LAHORE: The upgrade of unmanned and manned level crossings, feasibility for establishment of Lahore Knowledge Park and construction of nine packages of Multan Metro Project were among the 26 schemes approved by the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) of Punjab on Thursday with an estimated cost of Rs39.65 billion.

Presided over by Punjab Planning and Development Board Chairman Irfan Elahi, the 36th meeting of the PDWP of 2014-15 fiscal year approved upgrade of unmanned and manned level crossings in the province at the cost of Rs634.686 million and feasibility–cum-master planning for establishment of Lahore Knowledge Park at Dera Rakh Chahl in Lahore (PC-II) at the cost of Rs56.072 million.

Approval was granted for construction of Multan Metro Project Corridor-I: BZU to Kumharan Chowk passing through major intersections of Northern Bypass, Chungi No 6, Chungi No 9, Fish Market, Daulat Gate, Chungi No 14, BCG Chowk and Vehari Chowk (approximate length 18.5 km, Package 1: Bahauddin Zakaria University to Chungi No 6, length 5.625 km, revised) at the cost of Rs6.14 billion; construction of Multan Metro Project Corridor-I: Package 2, Chungi No 6 to Fish Market (length 3.475 km, revised) at the cost of Rs4.916 billion; construction of Multan Metro Project Corridor-I: Package 3, Fish Market to Chungi No 14, (length 1.171 km, revised) at the cost of Rs2.8 billion; Package 4: Chungi No 14 to BCG Chowk and segment of Vehari Road (length 2.581 km, revised) at the cost of Rs3.41 billion; Package 5: Vehari Road to Chowk Kumharan (length 5.464 km, revised) at the cost of Rs3.8 billion; construction of Multan Metro Project Corridor-1: Package 6, BZU to Chowk Kumharan (length 18.52 km) at the cost of Rs4.2 billion; construction of Multan Metro Project: supply, installation, testing, commissioning, operation and maintenance of escalator and elevators (Revised, Package-7) at the cost of Rs1.826 billion; construction of Multan Metro Project: Supply, installation, testing, commissioning, operation and maintenance of solar streetlights, generators and platform screen door (PSD) (Package-8) at the cost of Rs1.58 billion and construction of Multan Metro Project: Bus depot, command and control center (Package-9) at the cost of Rs2.1 billion.

The other schemes approved included widening or improvement of road from Gujranwala-Hafizabad Road from Bheri Mor to Gujranwala Alipur Chattah Road through Chandreka and Bheri Shah Rehman (length 22.56 km) at the cost of Rs311.937 million; construction of Dera Ghazi Khan Ring Road (remaining portion length 5.20 km revised) at the cost of Rs308.881 million; widening and improvement of Head Muhammad Wala to Karam Dad Qureshi-Kot Addu-Layyah Road through MM Road along TP Link Canal (length 47.10 km) in Muazffargarh (Revised) at the cost of Rs949.820 million; Construction of bridge over River Indus near Miranpur on linking N-55 at Arbi Tibba with Rahim Yar Khan (length 4335 Rft) at the cost of Rs2.463 billion and construction of approach road to Iccha Bangla (length 23.25 km) in Rahim Yar Khan at the cost of Rs1.327 billion.
