Bully and Bitch

Published February 22, 2015

Asim Butt (painter and sculptor) founded the first Pakistani Stuckist group titled as the Karachi Stuckists before he passed away. He had turned his back on abstract painting in favour of real painting. For him art was a way of life.

‘Bully and Bitch’ (oil on canvas, 36 inches x 72 inches) places great value of painting as a medium, one of communication, and expression of emotion and experience on behalf of the artist. The painting is based on deep earthly colours and shows his love of wandering around the streets for seeking and exploring. It was his dynamic symbolic art done on a whim on the streets that grabbed everyone’s attention. He was an artist who liked to observe life at places such as Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s Mazar and paint murals on the walls. This painting is part of a private collection. — S.I.K.
