KARACHI: NED University of Engineering and Technology, Greenwich University, hosts Iqra University and Karachi University stormed into semi-finals of the HEC Inter-university zone ‘G’ basketball tournament at the Arambagh court on Thursday evening.

Fahad Khan, who amassed 18 points, guided NED University to an authoritative 41-22 victory over PAF Kiet in the opening match. Fahad was supported by Fazeel who contributed eight points. Usaid Zafar and Saif Ali scored nine and eight respectively for losers.

Despite finishing with a tall score of 21, Hamza Ali could not save Institute of Business Management (IoBM) from suffering 33-44 defeat at the hands of Greenwich University in the next match.

Zia Ahmed and Mubashir made good use of their scoring abilities scoring 18 and 11 points respectively to pave the way for their team to victory.

In another match, Tashfeen and Saad Tariq caught the eye for Iqra University which got the better of IoBM 59-33.

The former mustered 16 points and was ably followed by the latter who contributed 13. Saad nine, Ali Zaidi and Ali Raza seven apiece were main scorers for losers.

Karachi University got the walkover against Sir Syed University which failed to turn up for their fixture.

The winner and runners-up of the zonal competition will qualify for the final round which takes place at Islamabad next month.
