ISLAMABAD: Former Islamabad Football Association president Syed Sharafat Hussain Bukhari appealed to the prime minister to conduct a special audit of all accounts of Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) over the last 11 years in order to save the sport in the country.

“The PFF has spent around Rs2 billion during Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat’s tenure as president,” Sharafat told reporters here on Tuesday.

“Despite that, the national team’s performance has declined and we are ranked a dismal 43rd in Asia and 188th in the world.”

He accused the PFF of spending millions of rupees on the salaries of its employees, local and foreign trips and other privileges.

“The grants by AFC and FIFA are to be spent on coaches, women and youth programmes but they have been misused,” Sharafat added.

“Incompetent people are running the federation and FIFA president Sepp Blatter must play his role in cleansing the PFF of these people so the game can flourish in the country.”
