KARAK: People of Kurd Sharif, Shownki and adjoining localities took to the streets on Monday against the shortage of teachers in the only boys’ middle school of the area.

The protesters led by former union council nazim Ikhtiar Rehman, school’s parent-teacher council chairman Amanullah and member Habibullah blocked the Kurd-Mianwali road, demanding immediate provision of the required teachers.

The speakers said that the middle school established in 1991 had been lacking strength of the required teachers as only three teachers, drawing master, Arabic teacher and theology teacher, were running it.

The protesters regretted that the post of secondary school teacher, who work as a headmaster, physical education teacher and two posts of certificate teachers remained vacant since long.

“For want of teachers, we have removed our children from the school and admitted them to schools in Mianwali district of Punjab,” they said.

The protesters regretted that they had approached the education high ups time and again to meet the teachers’ shortage, but to no avail.

They demanded of the education department to provide teachers to the school as soon as possible to save the precious time of the remaining students whose parents could not afford to send them to schools in Mianwali. They also demanded upgrading the school to high level.

The local people also demanded speeding up of work on the under construction girls primary school in the area.

They threatened if the teachers were not provided to the school then they would organise a protest demonstration at the district headquarters, Karak.
