MARDAN: Speakers at a convention here on Sunday demanded of the education department to upgrade the officials of management cadre.

They said that hierarchy imbalance emerged in elementary and secondary education department with one-step upgradation of different cadres as it affected the official work.

The convention was organised by Management Cadre Coordination Council of the education department.

The officials of the management cadre including district education officers, sub-divisional education officers and assistant sub-divisional education officers from Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi and Charsadda attended the convention.

Chairman of the association Saleem Khan, Charsadda DEO (Male) Siraj Mohammad, Peshawar DEO (Femal) Sameena Ghani and presidents of the different teachers associations addressed the convention.

They said that with the one- step upgradation of the clerical staff in the education department, the hierarchy was disturbed.

Earlier, the superintendents working in the district education offices were the subordinate of the assistant sub-divisional education officers (ASDOs), who were awarded grade-17.

Now the superintendents in grade-17 were working under ASDOs, who are in grade-16.

The speakers said that it was noticed that superintendents were not following directives of ASDOs because they were awarded higher grade.

Similarly, they said, SDEOs were in grade-17 but three to four superintendents in grade-17 were working under them in the district education offices. They threatened to launch protest if their demand was not met immediately.
