HYDERABAD: Members of the Jamshoro Power Generation Company (Genco-I) labour union, an affiliate of the All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union, have demanded activation of three of the four generation units laying closed for want of fuel.

Speaking at a press conference at the local press club on Sunday, Genco-I union chairman Abbas Ali Chandio and secretary Naveed Ali Abbasi said that Genco-I ran two power houses, one in Jamshoro and the other in Kotri, and the four units at the Jamshoro power house alone had a capacity to produce 880 megawatts.
However, three of the four units had been lying closed for three months for want of fuel curtailing power generation to just 180 megawatts, they said.

They warned that planned privatisation of the firm would adversely affect the government and workers.
