CHITRAL: Pakistan People’s Party old workers in Chitral have rejected the appointment of district office-bearers by the PPP’s provincial president Khanzada Khan and have named a parallel cabinet.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, senior party workers, including Mohammad Zahir Shah, Said Aman, Bulbul Khan Ayubi, Miraj Hussain and others criticized the party’s provincial leadership for what they said imposing Salim Khan and his cohorts on them in utter disregard of the sentiments of the diehard party workers.

They said that they had formed their own district cabinet whose office-bearers included Eidul Hussain as president, Mohammad Zia Shah vice-president, Mujeebur Rahman general secretary, Aneesud Din deputy general secretary and Shah Murad Baig information secretary.

The senior PPP workers said that Chitral had been the stronghold of the party since 1970s but it suffered electoral defeats only due to the fact that the provincial and central leadership had always imposed unwanted elements on them.

They demanded of PPP co-chairperson Asif Zardari to salvage the party in the district by declaring null and void the nominations of the provincial president regarding the office-bearers of party in Chitral district. “Mr Zardari is requested to conduct intra-party elections to nominate real workers as the PPP office-bearers,” they demanded.

They said that if the current rift persisted, the party would suffer disaster in the forthcoming local bodies elections, which also leave a bad impact on the party in the next general elections.

They criticised MPA Salim Khan, who was made the party’s district president, for his alleged bungling in the disbursement of development funds and appointments in different departments.

They claimed that the PPP couldn’t progress in the district under the leadership of Mr Salim Khan as he had a “bad” reputation among people.
