DERA GHAZI KHAN: The border military police (BMP) on Saturday foiled an attempt to smuggle a huge quantity of foreign liquor at Bewata checkpost (checkpost on Punjab-Balochistan provincial boundary).

The liquor was being smuggled from Quetta on a truck laden with crates of apples.

BMP Commandant Shahid told Dawn 1,073 bottles of liquor were seized during the checking of the Sargodha-bound truck. He said the bottles were kept beneath the crates of apples.

A case has been registered against driver, Bismila Khan of Quetta.

32 suspects held: A crackdown on suspects and the people registered under the fourth schedule have been commenced in four districts -- Layyah, Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan and Muzaffargarh.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) chief said at least 32 suspects, including the people registered under the fourth schedule, had been arrested with the help of the police concerned.

He said six of the suspects were arrested in Dera Ghazi Khan.
