QUETTA: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Aitzaz Goraya has ruled out reopening of private schools and colleges without adequate security arrangements.

Some educational institutions were already closed for winter vacations, while others suspended their classes after the carnage at Army Public School Peshawar, last month. All schools and colleges in Quetta and other areas of Balochistan are scheduled to reopen in March.

Mr Goraya, speaking at a press conference on Friday, said that security of the state-run schools and colleges was the responsibility of the government, which the authorities would fulfil.

However, private institutions will have to secure their security arrangements as: “No private school and college will be allowed to reopen without making proper security arrangements and the government will soon take decision regarding the security of university and government schools,” he said.

Furthermore, he said police had arrested two suspects and recovered from their possession a large number of activated mobile phone SIM cards of Afghanistan, in an operation at the Airport Road Quetta.

Police also recovered 50 fake passports and fake visa stickers being used for sending people aboard, hundreds of fake Pakistan Army and police cards from a shop, besides computers and disks.

In a campaign against illegal immigrants, security forces and police arrested 125 Afghans living without legal documents.

The SSP said police were also checking record of property dealers to seek information about the rented houses and inmates living therein.
