LAHORE: The Pakistan Modern Pentathlon Federation (PMPF) has been recognised by the world’s governing body International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM).

Riaz Fatyana and Zahur Ahmed as president and secretary had applied for the affiliation which was granted, a press release of the federation stated on Monday.

Riaz disclosed the news in the general body meeting of the federation held here. The general council hailed the decision of the UIPM and vowed Pakistan would soon earn a prominent position at the international level in the sport.

The PMPF also announced that the inaugural National Women’s Championships will be held at the Punjab Stadium here on Jan 20 to 21.

As many as 60 players of six participating teams from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Islamabad and Azad Kashmir will take part in the two-day event, which will be staged under the banner of Sports Board Punjab (SBP). Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar will be the chief guest on the opening day.

A two-day training camp for the participating teams is also being set up here from Jan 18.

Meanwhile, Multan will host first National Inter-Division Women Championships in April this year.
