KARACHI: A suspected kidnapper was shot dead in an encounter in Surjani Town on Friday evening, according to police.

Surjani Town SHO Naveed Nasir said that a child, Naeem, was kidnapped four months ago in the New Karachi Industrial Area and his kidnappers had demanded a ransom for his release.

He said the child’s family had paid Rs200,000 but the kidnappers did not release him and demanded Rs500,000 more.

On Friday, three suspects came to Zero Point near the Northern Bypass to collect the ransom. However, police challenged them and they started firing. In an ensuing encounter, one suspect, identified as Amir Haleem, was arrested in wounded condition. His accomplices managed to escape, said the area SHO.

He said that the wounded suspect told the police that they had killed the child the next day after the kidnapping.

He said that the suspect also died and the body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
